Thurston County Jail Roster

The Thurston County Jail Roster in Washington is a public resource that allows you to check who is currently in custody. On the ThurstonCourt.us website, you can find publicly available information about current and recently released inmates. Additionally, data is available through the official Thurston County Sheriff's website, by phone, or in person at the jail's reception. The roster is maintained by the Thurston County Sheriff's Office, updated regularly, and posted on the official website of the agency. The search allows you to find out the detention status of a person, the charges brought against them, and the booking date.

Search Current Inmates in Thurston Jail

There are several ways to find out if a specific person is in custody at the Thurston County Jail.

Online Search

  1. Visit ThurstonCourt.us to search for public information about court cases and custody.
  2. Use the official inmate roster on the Thurston County Sheriff's Office website — the roster is available as a searchable list by name.
  3. To check court records, use the name and case number search on the Washington State Courts portal.

To start a search, you will need the person's full legal name or booking number, if known. Juvenile offenders are not displayed in the public roster.

Additionally, Thurston County police online records provide access to law enforcement reports from Olympia, Lacey, Tumwater, Yelm, and Tenino — useful if you need arrest details.

Find Thurston Jail Booking Records Online

A booking record is created at the moment a detained person is officially processed into the jail. It is not the same as a court record — booking records the fact of being taken into custody.

Each record contains:

  • Unique booking number
  • Date and time of processing
  • Charges brought
  • Arresting agency
  • Basic identification details of the detainee (name, date of birth, gender)

These records can be found in several ways. The inmate roster on the sheriff's website displays bookings for individuals currently in custody. If the person has been released, the record usually disappears from the public roster. In such cases, submit a records request directly to the Thurston County Sheriff's Office.

For a state-level criminal history check, there is a separate tool — criminal history check through Washington State Patrol. This database contains records submitted by law enforcement agencies and courts throughout the state and operates based on fingerprints.

Search the Thurston Jail Roster by Last Name or Booking Number

The roster supports two main search methods.

Search by Last Name

Enter the last name in the search field. Adding the first name narrows the results — this is especially important for common last names. Some practical tips:

  • Check the spelling — one letter mistake can result in no matches.
  • If the system allows partial searches, try entering just the first few letters of the last name.
  • Use the browser's Ctrl+F function (or Cmd+F on Mac) to find a name in a long list if the roster is displayed as a table without a built-in filter.

Search by Booking Number

The booking number is the most accurate way to identify. If you received this number from an attorney, court, or inmate's relative, enter it directly.

What to Do if the Search Yields No Results

The absence of results does not necessarily mean the person was not detained. Here are possible reasons:

  1. The person has not yet been processed — there may be a few hours between arrest and the appearance of the record in the roster.
  2. The person has already been released — released records are usually removed from the current roster.
  3. The name is entered incorrectly or differs from the legal name in the system.
  4. The person is held in another facility — for example, in a state prison. Check the Washington Department of Corrections warrant search.

If none of these options helped, call the jail at (360) 786-5610.

Jail Roster Updates and Search Limitations in Thurston

The Thurston County inmate roster is updated throughout the day, but it does not happen instantly. Between the time of physical arrest and the appearance of the record in the online roster, it usually takes from one to several hours — the time needed to complete the booking procedure.

Main limitations to consider:

  • Publication delay. Recently arrested individuals may not yet appear in the list.
  • Disappearance of records after release. The roster shows only those currently in custody. It is not an archive of all past bookings.
  • Data entry errors. Sometimes names or charges are entered incorrectly, complicating the search.
  • Minors and certain categories. Records regarding minors, as well as some records related to protective orders, may be restricted from public access.

To search for outstanding arrest warrants or unpaid fines, use state court system resources — they cover a broader range of data than a single jail's roster.

If you need older booking records or archival data, submit a public records request to the Thurston County Sheriff's Office. Historical documents of individual state and local agencies are also stored in the Washington State Digital Archive.
